Making Money With AdSense

A little over a month ago, YouTube expanded its Partner Program.  Most old Partners weren't happy about it.  In fact, most people in general weren't happy with it.  The option to apply for real Partnership on YouTube was voided which upset many people trying to achieve that status.  But for a select few, it provided a very good opportunity.  I am here to help you earn what you deserve and do it in a safe manner.

Now that you have the ability to monetize all of your videos, there are a few things to keep in mind...

1) DO NOT attempt to monetize videos that contain content that you do not own or have the rights to use. This includes, but is not limited to...
-Audio (Whether it be music, etc.)
-Lyrics (People don't realize that even though they might be the ones singing or saying the lyrics,
they are still owned by the record label or individual. Also, just because an individual might
not be connected to a record label, they can still file a DMCA claim on you.)
-Video (Self-explanatory. You didn't film it, you can't use it.)
-Another person's personal info (This doesn't affect monetization at all, but anything that can
harm another individual can get you in a load of trouble.)

2) The actual monetization of a video can take quite some time when you first get monetization on your YouTube channel.  Do not panic.  It is expected that the video will take a couple of hours to actually monetize.  When YouTube first monetizes your channel, they take a closer look at your content, double checking, because you're relatively new.  As you monetize videos, the wait time should decrease until it only takes minutes to monetize.  Don't do anything stupid to piss off YouTube so you can start making money right away.  By trying to monetize content that isn't yours, you aren't being a good example and your relationship with YouTube will not be pleasant.

3) When you first monetize your videos, I highly suggest setting your ad type as Overlay for the first 24 hours.  I will explain later why.  After those 24 hours, it's recommended that you set it as TrueView.  I can personally say that ever since switching my ads to TrueView, I have seen an increase in profit by over 100%.  People tend to click more and/or watch the entire ad when you have TrueView set.

4) Although you have the ability to make money, it doesn't just fly into your pockets.  You have to build an audience and continue to increase traffic.  Create content that people enjoy, and you yourself will be enjoying the nice little gift from Google in return.  A common misconception is that you will make tons off of AdSense.  Unless you get thousands upon thousands of visitors daily, you won't make that much.  Besides, you wouldn't want to get too greedy anyways. =P  Just a reminder that you don't get paid until you earn $100.  That doesn't happen too quickly unless you get lucky.  Don't quit your day job just yet.

5) This is VERY IMPORTANT.  If you don't follow this tip, things might not end up well.  Now that more people can monetize videos, there are also more people who don't understand how this works.  You first off need to follow all the rules.  If you don't, you can get permanently banned like many people already have.  You also need to fully understand how the system works.  You get paid per click based on the percentage of clicks per how many views.  This is called your CTR.  If your CTR is too high, this can be seen as taking advantage of the system.  This will get you banned indefinitely.  Let's say you didn't do anything wrong.  There are clickbombers out there who will repeatedly click on the ad to increase your CTR.  YOU ARE NOT PROTECTED BY THEM.  The only way to actually be protected from them is to join a Network.  We can talk about Networks in a later post.  If you see your CTR getting too high, disable monetization on the suspected videos to try and save your AdSense account.  That's the only other option I can offer.

6) Now that you of course have an AdSense account, you can put ads on sites other than YouTube.  Have a personal website?  You can put them right on there.  That is just an extra source of traffic.
